The Gothic choir stalls in St Castulus' Minster

Choir stalls (c. 43 kbytes) After the chancel had been completed, new oak choir stalls were placed in the church by 1475. The canons of the Moosburg clerical chapter assembled here several times a day for their prayers. The backs of the seats have a rich foliate decoration with masks and mythical creatures.

Choir stalls (c. 32 kbytes) The sculptor of the stalls - only the carpenter Hermann is known by name - used contemporary engravings as models for his work. Some say the bearded head might be a self-portrait of the artist.
